I too am having the same problem, but I'm using a Gift Card (Visa Credit Card) and I've used them before with no problem.  I get the error message as you do (won't recognize my card).  I've used Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Firefox.  I'm not sure what is going on.  First time this has ever happened, as in the past everything worked out fine.

Hello! I'm having the same problem. I tried to add my Americn Express gift card with $50 on it and it wouldn't accept it and I tried to add it four times. When I went back to check my balance it showed that Paypal had taken one dollar each time I tried to add it. I am down to $46 on it and I am very angry. I am supposed to be paying someone on eBay with it for $40. I am afraid if I try again it will just keep taking money until I don't have enough to pay them.

I called Paypal and asked them about this problem. They no longer accept any sort or prepaid gift card with the exception of a GreenDot money card. When I asked what to do they told me to go and purchase a GreenDot money card with my American Express Gift card. This whole process is extremely frustrating. I asked them how they plan on giving me my four dollars back and they said that the chargers should just drop off the card in a few days. Hope this was helpful.
