PayPal exchange rates are poor

having just bought an item for $4560 USD the conversion rate applied by PayPay was 1.59 to the pound when the published rate is $1.6495  this makes it quite expensive useing pay pay. A lesson learnt. In future I will use my debit card, they are paying 1.6345 .

I feel somewhat robbed, I trusted PayPal to be fair and reasonable.. Lesson Learnt

I will never use PayPay for any substantial payment again.

I recieved a payment of 1000 canadian dollars and want to send it to my bank in the US. Of course PayPal charged a 44.30 dollar fee for the payment and after that I have 955.70. The PayPal conversion rate is PayPal exchange rate:1 CAD = 0.761008  USD and the XE rate is 1 CAD =0.783691USD. So the conversion to my bank is going to cost me about 20 dollars. Not a whole lot but this has happened on a few occasions now. IT ALL ADDS UP!

I read where I can have my bank do the conversion.. where do I do that and will it save me a few bucks?

Pay pal sucks.

They charge transaction fees for the international purchase.

I have closed my pay pal account now as for years they charged me  transaction fee on international purchases.

Without pay pal can i buy and sell via ebay?

Yeah,

Went to make a transfer to a friend from CAD to USD now thru paypal and the exchange rate is 1.2072 , while on xe.com its 1.2521 - Paypal is takin 5 cents of every dollar. Thats about 4%.

I just wish they would advertise that they charge 4% to transfer money to friends/relatives instead of saying its FREE. In my opinion it would look better for their image if they just were sincere.

Another one very disappointed with paypal rates, as you said it it feels like they were robbing you. In my case I accepted payment from a client and they did not even gave me the oportunity to choose the exchange rate. Whats worse when they passed me the money they already had stolen the fees. Crap crap crap, looking for alternatives.
