What information does merchant see?

When I pay a merchant's invoice, what information do they see about me?  ID, address?, etc

The merchant will see your name, email address and shipping address. At PayPal, we aim to only provide the information needed for a sale to complete successfully. 

Your name and shipping address is required for your merchant to post your item to you and your email address is needed to send confirmation emails or shipping details directly to you.

Does the merchant always see my full name, or just the name with the shipping address?

I ask this because for digital services, I do not want to share too much information and I select an empty shipping address.

They will see your full name as most peoples items are posted and so that is a requirement.

Be aware that there is no "buyer protection" on paypal for digital / virtual items.
