How to chargeback?

Hello! On the 3rd day of April, I sent €130 to a seller selling on a local classified ads website via Family & Friends (mistake from being new) in order to purchase a monitor and a mouse for the PC I'm building. I'm not adding more details as this is not a complaint or protest against the seller. Till today, the seller stopped answering to any messages I sent and lied to me many times before I sent the money. He tried creating a new account to clean his scams, but the website got him. I phoned PayPal, but they can't do anything unless if it were an unauthorized transaction. I then phoned my bank, but they only canceled my debit/credit card and didn't open a dispute like they should've (right?). Today, I filled a scam report on the local police station for court against the seller. I also phoned Mastercard, but a bot told me to dial my taxpayer number and then redirected the call to my bank. Am I doing something wrong? Should I try calling my bank again? Any help would be appreciated.

A friends / family (or gift payment) is intended as a transfer of funds from family or friends to one another. For this reason, there is no processing fee when payment is made with bank or PayPal balance.
However as it is a “gift” payment, there is also no Buyer protection as no goods or services should have been exchanged.

If he was not a close mate or family member you should never use that option as it enables the seller to evade his paypal fees and negates your buyer protection at the same time.
You also risk having your account limited for using this option when you are purchasing goods as its against Paypal rules.

Your only hope is if you funded your paypal payment via a credit card then contact your card issuer and see if they will help you but unfortunately again as it was a 'gift' of money they may decline as well.

Basically you sent a gift of money to someone and were not buying anything, if you were you would have used goods / services.   Smiley Sad
