Ivory Tower Tech Co - Interesting scam on Lightsabers

Hi All,

I saw a face book ad for a lovely intricate multi-part metal light saber (I have since seen the same ad under many different companies) for $34.99. I ordered through Paypal because the have "buyer" protection. What actually arrived was a two piece molded plastic, 1.99 kids toy.

Contacting the seller returned bounced undeliverable and so I lodged a complaint with the resolution center which came back and said I need to ship the POS they sent back to Hong Kong with a tracking number (that's $15).

Is there no way that PP has automated checks on suppliers where many products are being returned? It seems silly there is no way to prevent this and quite frankly the scammers have won because it's not worth my time for the difference (34.99-15) to mail the fraudulent item back.

When I have had similar issues on Amazon, they are on their customer's side - paypal seems to be with the scammers.

Here is the exact same video used to sell the item (this is from a different seller/scammer):

(looks like i can 't use certain sites videos. If you know google's short URL, add this to it: S8zSdR

Just in case that doesn't work, there are photos of the vid and a photo of what was delivered below. I'll leave you to guess which two are from the video.....

What say you Paypal people?

Hi Angelo, You'll need to file a dispute as "item not as described" giving the information it asks for. PayPal will eventually ask you to ship the item back, despite it being a clear scam. You can then attempt to reclaim your postage using the information from the person above.

PayPal's return shipping is only valid for US shippers....

I firmly believe PayPal encourages these types of scams to collect their fees....

I purchased an electric surfboard for $180.00 and received a $5.00 boogie board.

After disputing the transaction with PayPal, the seller agreed to a refund if I returned the POS to them and I found out today the shipping is $58.00

I have been scammed by ticket sellers too on PayPal, so I guess I will have to stop believing they are trying to protect anyone except themselves

this makes me furious, I bought this as a gift for my son expecting a really cool, metal light saber then received an incredibly cheap plastic piece of cr@p. Why can't paypal step in and handle this for all of us?

I have the same case, have bought two lightsabers, thinking, that this is a really cool gimmick for mu Star Wars lovning son. We have reciekved a plastic stick, and there is no response from Ivory Tower, and PayPal has turned the claim down. That's two times 34,95 down the drain, and me sondering, who is PayPal protecting here.

PayPal aren't stepping in because quite frankly they don't care. They have always been on the side of the merchant and it's one of the reasons Amazon is better to buy from and pay through with normal methods. They refund almost no questions asked and expect very high levels of compliance from their merchants.
