Returning Fake Rothys to China/PayPal's reaction to Fraud

I ordered Rothys from a link on FaceBook. I know, I should have been more savvy. When the shoes arrived after more than a month, they were the wrong style and wrong color. To get my $114.99 refund, it will cost over $200 to return these to China. While PayPal offers reimbursement for return shipping, it is only $30, leaving me out $55.  I have an open dispute, but I got a message yesterday saying I needed to respond to the seller, even though I did respond to both the company and to PayPal. I described the problems (wrong style, wrong color, knock off, expense of return to China) to both, but I have no way of knowing if either received my reply. I can't tell if this message is a generic reply to make sure that I answer the seller's offer before the due date or if I actually need to provide more documentation (which I don't have). What is your experience with Paypal's handling of fraud?

I had a similar problem and feel so dumb for missing what now seems so obvious. I did immediately catch the issues (ordering what I thought was Rothy's but got a China vendor and site). I reached out to the vendor to cancel the order (no answer from them).  I submitted a dispute to Paypal as soon as I received the order acknowledgement and could tell it wasn't Rothy's, and still Paypal won't help. This is disappointing and wondering why I should continue to use Paypal for transactions if they're not protecting their customers.

here’s the real question- WHY IS PAYPAL WORKING WITH THESE FRAUDULENT COMPANIES AFTER SO MANY COMPLAINTS?? (Complicit?) I thought the whole reason for PayPal was to have added protection??? What’s the point then? It just happened to me too. I noticed immediately after getting the PayPal receipt and told the seller to cancel the transaction then I opened a case with PayPal. The seller ignored me and I got a shipment notification. PayPal ignored my email and sent me a generic email to work with the seller. From the sounds of the above I’m not getting my $ back So PayPal has no policy for not working with counterfeit sellers ?!

I feel the same way!  I contacted PayPal minutes after my order went through.  They should have been able to STOP that transaction.  Now, the company, who I also emailed to cancel my order, quickly sent a shipping notice so that they wouldn't be able to honor my request.  I will definitely be be deciding if I will continue with PayPal on the resolution of this transaction.  With so many complaints, why are customers even still experiencing this FRAUD?!

I ordered a size 6 Rothy's sneaker, I received a size 10 pointed toe flat. I think it's a size 10 because it's not marked. Totally fake shoe. Paypal should be shut down because they are not supporting these claims. I won't use them again.

Paypal sided with Chinese company even though they sent me a different product than was advertised. This is something everyone should be aware of. So many peopl are losing money to these Chinese companies and Paypal is doing NOTHING!!

How can PayPal be supporting counterfeiters ?? PayPal chooses to work with these companies that have fake copyrighted websites etc I sent an email to the company being defrauded (Rothy’s) as well. What is the point of using PayPal if they are in cahoots with criminals

Same situation here- at first the company offered me $3, then $10 to keep the shoes. After opening a dispute on PayPal they said they will refund is I return- but like others, it will cost so much it's not worth it. I also looked it up and it is actually not legal to send counterfeit items through the mail- https://pe.usps.com/text/imm/immc1_015.htm. If you used a credit card to pay through PayPal, call your CC customer service and dispute the charge. I just spoke with Chase and I will need a statement from Rothy's to confirm that this was not an authorized seller (VariableMall) and Chase will refund the purchase and not require me to send them back to China.
