Fell for a PS5 Scam. Usually smarter than this. In my 19 years with paypal, I've never fallen for a scam, but mom texted me the link telling me sony had PS5s up for order and website looked fine (turned out to be 1 letter misspelled). Well 5 minutes after I buy, mom sends another text message "Oh, sorry. Dad said the email looks suspect." Aw damn, mom wasn't out online shopping, she just got the link from a sketchy email!
At this point I panic. I don't know how much information the website can steal from me and I can't reach anybody at paypal so I cancel my card, remove my bank account, and change my password. When I click the 'security' tab on paypal's site it takes me to a website about how to be a hacker? Okay, paypal, that's... professional, but whatever.
I submit a claim, and paypal asks me some question about buying a gift card a week earlier? But doesn't give me a transaction number, entity, or literally any other information. I ask what the question is referring to and why they're asking me about it when I'm submitting a claim on a fake ps5? I get no answer, just an automatic claim denial.
My bank also says since it's through paypal there is nothing they can do either.
19 years, one scam, totally blown off by pp, and I don't have the confidence to re-add my bank account or credit card because I don't know how much access the scam website was able to get to. Right in the middle of Christmas too and I've had to cancel online orders that only accept paypal + remove all my items for sale from ebay.
