Unauthorized withdrawal through Walmart..

Friday the 28th of June, $500 was taken out of my Paypal account through Walmart cash out, Paypal has been no help and closed the case, saying It's Walmart that's at fault.  Walmart, also has been no help, I have chatted, called and emailed them to resolve this, but no help so far. I have two different transaction ID's, but they can't seem to find which Walmart the transaction took place at.  Anyone else had this happen?  Very frustrating, seems like either party wants to take responsibility. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This happed to me on friday 1/10/20. $500 was withdrawn from my paypal account at a walmart. I got the same run around. I emailed paypal about the fraud only for them to reply to me within 7 hours that the transaction wasn't unauthorized. When I called on 1/11/20 customer service told me that someone has to show a valid ID to walmart employee to get the cash. Therefore, according to paypal the fault of the transaction is on walmart and not paypal. I dont see how paypal can allow transactions without knowing the location. Credit Card companies know the location of transactions. Walmart told me they need a location of the transaction which paypal would not divulge to me. Walmart customer service gave me their internet transaction number to call but i was on hold for 3 hours and 5 minutes before i finally realized I'm never getting through to a live person. I did file a police report and reported it to ic3.com as others have suggested in this forum. It seems like a good way to scam people. Get someone's paypal info, have a friend who works at walmart say you showed a valid ID, withdraw the money and split it with the walmart employee friend since it seems its known the transactions are not traceable. This is a massive flaw in the system.  I am reaching out this evening after work to the three local news stations for help or to at least let others know through news reporting to never keep money in paypal or don't use the service so others can avoid the same situation.

I sent a letter to their legal department explaining the situation.  I am giving it some time to get to them and have them read it over.  If I don't hear back from them soon I am going to report them to the BBB.  I see that there are a lot of people with complains and some get resolved.  I am also interested in reporting it to the new station.  This is really sad and your money is NOT safe at all. I'm so sorry this also happened to you.

This exact scenario happened to me on 1/11/20 (and is still unresolved).  Paypal even sent me an email notification just prior to the withdrawal stating that my account had been accessed by "a device we don't recognize."  However, they still sent payment to a Walmart for $500.00 despite their suspicions.  I have disputed this payment as unauthorized (immediately) and it has already been denied twice without anyone reaching out to me to discuss or provide me any information regarding their "investigation."

To date, I have been given the same run around from Paypal's customer service as the other posters.

I tried giving them the email Transaction ID number and Paypal told me that they can't verify the Walmart location. I'm not sure what else to do. I have filed a claim with Walmart and my local police. I'll just wait till Walmart gets back to me. Anyone Else have any Luck?

I had $492 deducted on 1/15/2020 via Wal-Mart. I Immediately called and submitted a claim.  The claim was denied. I attempted to appeal by calling customer service 3 times, and got nowhere.  Reached out to Wal Mart and also got nowhere.  I was able to finally get some one to re open by claim but contacting them via Facebook. I wrote a public post on their profile and sent a private message. Within three days my case was looked at and they reached out to ask additional questions, I was refunded the full amount. It is worth a try. If you have twitter you can also try and reach out that way. Super annoying that you have to result to social media to get customer service. I got my money back and will be closing my PayPal account.

Ok so i found the original email from paypal saying that money was withdrawn from walmart. I noticed that the transaction ID was different than the one in my paypal account. After some research from Paypal they determined that that was the walmart location. It was in New Jersey. I live in Maryland. They then determined that the ID used to verify the identity of the person withdrawing the money was not verified. I was refunded the full $500 last night and transferred the money to my bank account. Everyone should look for that original email. The transaction number there give Paypal the location of the walmart.

I withdrew twenty dollars from my MOVO card at Walmart. I went to the service desk as instructed and they pointed me to a credit card scanner device at the register. Never asked for any ID though MOVO says they will ask for it.

I’m now loading the card only online

On February 13, I had $500 withdrawn from my PayPal balance from a Walmart as well. I immediately contacted PayPal to inform them that this was fraudulent as I was at work. The security specialist seemed to consistently ask me if I made the withdrawal. After a few minutes on the phone, she helped me change my password and opened up a dispute. I informed them that I had two different transaction IDs. While changing my password, apparently she noted my IP address to help identify where I was currently located. Perhaps PayPal used this information to cross reference where the withdrawal was made to confirm it wasn't me. Walmart was of no help. I did file a police report on case PayPal rejected my dispute. In the evening, I received notification that the dispute was successful and I got my $500 back. I quickly transferred into my bank account. Perhaps with the the recent complaints from 2019 to present, PayPal is used to seeing this fraud. I never had a dispute handled so quickly. After my money is transferred to my bank account, I'm removing my bank account from PayPal and probably closing PayPal account after 14 years of use. The lack of security protocols for removing such a large amount of money is baffling. My credit cards always alert me when suspicious purchases or transactions occur. $500 cash withdrawal at a Walmart??? How does that NOT sound suspicious PayPal? I appreciate the quick resolution to my case, but I lost all confidence in your ability to protect my account.
