Unauthorised Pre-Approved Payment Setup by SugarSync

On the 23rd November, I received an invoice from Paypal saying $50 had been taken from my account by SugarSync.

I had not logged into my account for a couple of weeks before this date.

I had NEVER paid for anything to do with SugarSync using my PayPal account.

On checking my PayPal account i realised that indeed this $50 had been taken from my bank account registered to my PayPal account.

On the above date SugarSync successfully ***without any involvement or authorisation from me*** created an annual pre-approved payment for the above amount.

I obviously disputed the claim and it has already been reversed (although of course, I will not be able to access the funds until PayPal has released them when they feel like it).

I can only assume that SugarSync took a gamble in seeing if my SugarSync account name was the same as my PayPal account name.

This is deeply concerning that a third party can take money from my PayPal account without any authorisation from me - and without anyone logging into my account.

It is deeply concerning that a company that I have had absolutely no dealings using my PayPal account can setup pre-approved payments without me being involved or made aware.

Why did PayPal not notify me to say that a new pre-approved payment had been setup?

If PayPal does not restore my confidence in their ability to securely maintain my account details, and my money I will not hesitate to cancel my account.

Hi

The same thing happened to me. Consumer Beware!!! Unfair business practice by Sugar Sync.  My Paypal account was charged $74.99 without notification after trial membership for the largest size storage plan.  You'll be lured into purchasing a plan at a low price only to find out that you're signed up for autopay program on any plan at the discretion of Sugarsync in the future.

Customer service is impossible to contact on about billing questions. Cancellation is expalined by other user.  But not confirmed through chat with auto response. Email is closed looped, no response system.   The company is set up  to divert inquiries.

I've file complaints with BBB and Louisiana District Attorney's Office so far. Awaiting Paypal dispute decision.

Remember no notification about your plan expiring or the new costs. No choices from Sugar Sync and no Customer support on the matter.

Here's a BBB complaint againist the company:

This company makes it impossible to cancel an account. Your credit card can be charged monthly forever because they refuse to reply.
SugarSync is a cloud storage company that requires anyone attempting to cancel an account to contact them during a ridiculously limited time window--10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday--and only through a chat function on their website that doesn't work. They refuse to respond to emails, and in fact they returned unread a complaint email sent to their "info" address, directing me back to their chat function. They provide no customer service telephone number. - See more at: http://www.bbb.org/greater-san-francisco/business-reviews/internet-services/sugarsync-in-san-mateo-c...
