Donation: Accept credit cards not working

We have a business account and when I created the button for donations it brings me to a page that says log in to paypal.

At the bottom of the page it says this:

"Don't have a PayPal account? 
Use your credit card or bank account (where available). Continue"

But that link brings you to a form where you HAVE to create a paypal account.

"Create a Paypal Account or Log it"

I'm a missing something?  Thanks for any help!!

I am having the same problem and can't figure it out.  Paypal says that they don't need an account, yet everything keeps leading back to them setting up their own account.

it looks like that option is only available for premier and business account holders.  The paypal fees are high enough already without having to purchase a business account just to get this feature that makes people more inclined to donate.  I hope I am wrong.

The thing is that the account I am working with is a BUSINESS account.

So, no matter what it should be showing the option to pay with just a credit card or with a paypal account.  Not just  "Create" or "Login to your paypal account".  I am the website designer and not the owner but I have access to the Paypal account and it does say it is the Business Account.

So, I'm lost on this one.

When I opened my paypal account, it said that people can make donations and "they do not need a paypal account".  Yet everytime we click on the donate button, the donor MUST open a paypal account to proceed with a donation.  Is there something wrong with the website?  Jenbrink, also had a similar question below (hers is a business account).   This seems very discouraging to people when they want to make a donation.  They are likely to see that screen and then simply close it out.....then we don't get donations and paypal doesn't make any money at all.  

How can people make donations without opening a paypal account?

I can shed a little light on this. The ability to make donations without a PayPal account is available, but may be prevented in some specific situations after the security model reviews the circumstances of the payment.

Is that more likely to happen if the donor is not logged into an account? Though this is not by any means the only factor that is considered, it is more likely. In those situations, PayPal still wants to facilitate the donation if possible, so we offer the option to log in or create an account to offer more information and complete the donation securely.

Actually no that does not clarify anything. Sorry. Maybe it's just going over my head.

As you can see there is no way to make a payment using just a credit card. You must create of log in to paypal.

Hi jenbrink,

Try this - log into your PayPal account and go to Profile >Website Payment Preferences. Make sure that the setting for PayPal Account Optional is set to "On".

Hi Olivia,

I went to Profile> Web payment preferenes> that page is asking for the auto return webpage URL and a few others (data trasnfer)  but I did not see the "Paypal Account Optional" button.

Also when I logged into the paypal account today it says that the owner still needs to show proof of the banking (Provide voided check etc) 

Maybe that is what the problem is?  I guess I will have to wait and see what happens after the owner provides more info to paypal.

OK the paypal accounts is verified with all the bank info and I recreated a new button and it is still doing the same thing.

"Create a paypal account or login"

Any ideas as to what is going on?
