Hello, I just have questions about a very fishy sounding sale.
I have a PSP listed on craigslist for 130 USD and the only offer i got was this person that says they work for the Red Cross and has to go to Haitti and that they want me to ship it to their daughter in Nigeria. They already send 230 dollars US to my paypal account with the stipulation that I send it out and then give the routing number to paypal. This person wants me to pay up front for the shipping.
This is my question:
If they say they never received it, and the funds are still held for 21 days in my pay pal account will these funds be canceled and will I be stuck for the $85.00 US that it will cost to ship and insure this item plus be out the item and never receive my funds?
I feel this is a very very fishy deal because its kinda "too good to be true"
The red flags are the content of the fourth email they sent me,
"
Thanks for the response, I've been expecting your response since I contacted you. I work with the United Nation First Aid and we got an emergency call because of the people dieing of Cholera in Haiti, so I had to go to Haiti with my entourages to attend to the patients and wont be back in the United States untill after 8weeks so I wouldn't be able to meet you in person. I'm actually buying this PSP for my daughter who is presently abroad as a Tourist and I will want you to help me handle the shipping to her. Do you still have the Original Box? I will be offering you $230 USD for the total cost including shipping and insurance Via USPS (Express Mail) and will be paying Via Paypal. Kindly get back to me with your full name your confirmed Paypal Email address so I can make the payment Immediately.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Regards.
"
Then this email tells me the shipping location, which is NIGERIA ??
"
I have send the payment through paypal and your money has been deducted from my paypal account, I want you to check your mail box for the payment confirmation from PayPal and kindly make it to the post office and send out the PSP via USPS Express Mail today before the post closes cos I want the PSP to get to my daughter on time. So here is the shipping address below:
Name: ** ***
Address: No ** *** Road,
City:Abeokuta,
State: Ogun state.
Zipcode:110001
Country: Nigeria
Thanks.

Hi David,
I personally wouldn't go through with it because of the shipping to Nigeria. It would be very risky and there wouldn't be any guarantee that the tracking would show delivery in that country. So if you did send it but the tracking never updated, they would be able to dispute the transaction and win the case.
I would also say that I highly doubt you have any funds in your PayPal account. I would double check that the funds they sent are actually there. Usually Nigerian shipping scams will only send out fake email notifications stating you've been paid. Then they will try to convince you to ship the item without receiving any funds. Even if the transaction was on hold, you would be able to see it in your PayPal account. I hope this helps!

David,
Welcome to the boards!
Yes, you can ignore these emails. Forward them over to our fraud team at spoof@paypal.com. There are two dead giveaways on these emails: grammar and a Nigerian shipping address (PayPal does not support Nigerian accounts at this time).
You can read more about selling safely online here in our Security Center here: https://www.paypal.com/securitycenter
This is also a great article on Wikipedia I recommend all individuals who use the internet read regarding these types of contacts (long but informative): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_fraud
Hope this helps,
Adrian
