We found a horse trailer (Ifor Williams) on ebay. The seller told us it was 15 years old. When I went to collect having paid via paypal the trailer was missing its seriel number plate. This is common for trailers that are stolen. I called a main dealer who said don't touch it. I informed the seller and she agreed to refund me. I then got an email from her telling me that she didn't think it was stolen and didn't refund me as promised.
I reported the matter to the police and they collected and inpounded the trailer. They can only check it against stolen trailer reports for their area.
In the meantime I contacted Ifor Williams themselves and sent them a picture of the trailer. The told me that it was proabably 10 years older than the seller had indicated so more than likley form the 1980's.
We do not want a trailer that may well have been stolen at some point and is far older than described.
The police called me to tell me that paypal would refund me but then to my shock I got an amil from paypal saying we were not covered and the case was closed!
The seller then sent me a message to say that she was aware that both ebay and paypal had found in her favour and released the money to her and that she had also informed the police that I would be collecting th etrailer form the impound and not her and if I hadn't done it by friday then I would be charged storage.
How the hell can this even be happening?
Can anyone please help. Ebay now say that because we opened a paypal dispute it automatically closd the ebay one adn can't be reopened.
We asked how old it was and seller said 15 years. Well it isn't according to the manufacturer. Is that enough on its own ?
The manufacturer have confirmed that we were right not to buy one of their trailers with no registration plate.

You should really read up on buyer protection before you start buying.
It clearly states that items collected by the buyer are not covered by buyer protection.
You should have paid cash on collection once you had inspected and agreed to buy the item.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

I should "read up". We've been on ebay since 03 and have 620 buy/sells with 100% record. We are not complete idiots. When I spoke to ebay they told us that we were fully protected. They also told us the transaction was "pending" and advised us to cancel via the bank. We immediately tried but it was not in fact pending at all and it appears that we were NOT fully protected.

Doesn't matter how many transactions you had behind you, you obviously never bothered to READ UP on buyer protection.
No you were not covered as I had already stated and that is why you lost the dispute.
