Hi there. I have two cards - debit and credit- attached to my paypal. When I have made a purchase on ebay I have paid with my debit card and I didn't realise at a time there were not enough funds in there... So this morning I have received an email saying that "your bank reported insufficient funds in your bank account to cover the transfer amount", as result another my card has been charged as a back up source. Now I am worried if I will have to pay penalty to my debit card account.. Can you, please, clarify this to me? Kind regards...

Hi Gravitsap,
It sounds to me that when you were sending this original payment from your PayPal account, we attempted to debit the funds from your confirmed bank account. When we attempted to debit this payment, it was then refused by your bank.
When this happens, we debit the funds from the back up credit/debit card that we have on file on your account. We don't charge any additional funds on your card in the event of a payment being refused by your bank.
If you click the History icon on your PayPal account and then the All Activity with Balance icon, you will see a complete breakdown on your recent transactions. You should also see this payment being debited from your card when the payment was refused by your bank.
I hope this helps,
David.

You can't change it as the bank account is the default funding source.
What I do is click on "other funding sources" located just above the payment amount DURING the checkout procedure and select a card on a transaction by transaction basis.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Hi Tracar,
Welcome to our community and thank you for posting.
I am sorry to hear that you are having troubles since you have added your bank account. I would like to help.
The bank account will always be the first funding source that we use if you don’t have a PayPal balance. You can indeed change this in every transaction but you can also remove the bank account at this moment as the verification step is already completed. When you remove the bank account we will use the card again as the funding source and you can use your account as you did earlier :).
I hope this information helps.
