Fake e-mail from PayPal?????

I have gotten an e-mail from PayPal (?) saying someone tried to enter my account. How do I know if this is a true PayPal e-mail? I am new at this so I don't even know if I can post this question or if it's already been addressed in a different area. Any help would be appreciated.

I get those emails from time to time.  If it does not specifically address you by name & begins with "Hello" , etc it is most likely NOT from PayPal.   Do not click on any of the links in the email!  Forward the entire email to:  spoof@paypal.com  then delete the email.   You can get this info by clicking on the 'Security' link at the top of the PayPal home page.

I just got one which notes an order WHICH I DID NOT PLACE.  At the bottom, there is a link to cancel the order; but when I go there, of course it asks for credit card information etc.  I am pretty sure this is phishing; but I'd like to make sure.
