Can't close defunct account, to stop inactivity fee notices

I've received a "notice of fee for account inactivity" e-mail for a paypal account I have tried for some time to close.

I can login, in that my e-mail address (not the one I am using here, btw) and password are accepted, but then I get an "unable to verify you" message and it all goes pete tong.

Of course, Paypal insists on me logging in before it will do anything. And of course, Paypal won't let me.

This is a really old UK account that I no longer needed when I moved to France. As I said, I could no longer access it because of the "we can't verify you" message. So I just created a new, Euro account with Paypal FR.

But now I've got this irritating "we charge for inactivity" nonsense to deal with. So I want to close the account. I spoke to a helpdesk agent - she wanted, and only wanted, my registered address. Damned if I know what I used - I move around a lot. And of course, said address is the only way she would progress my account closure request.

So, I can't close the account and I am getting threatened with account inactivity costs

Any suggestions anyone? Please?

Paypal is country specific so if you move countries you have to open another paypal account in the country you reside in and add an address / phone number / bank accounts / cards from within that country.

You should really withdraw any funds / resolve issues / remove cards and bank accounts / cancel any subscriptions and close the old Paypal account before you move countries. If you don't then you may have problems doing so once you have moved and may need to contact customer services for help to resolve things.

Contact options for each countries Paypal customer services are accessed by clicking help/contact bottom left of Paypal pages.

1. Paypal phones (you can use the guest option if you can't log in).
2. Live chat is also randomly available.
3. You can send them a message, (during business hours you may also be able to message whilst logged out).
4. Have you considered contacting Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter?
You can send them a private direct message via Social Media on Facebook, Twitter/X, or Instagram pages.

Did you manage to close it? I haven't used my account for over 10 years, cannot log in and close it. I spent already over an hour. It says PayPal will charge that fees only from the balance. My balance is 0. Shall I continue to try to close it or just ignore it?
