How to delete old and wrong "ship to" address list?

When I go to Checkout the "Ship to" address is wrong. I have deleted that address some time ago, yet it is still my default "Ship to" address. How to REALLY REALLY delete it?

There is a dropdown menu that exposes a long list of guesses based on VERY OLD and ONE TIME addresses I may have used years ago. None of those addresses are valid or relevant. How do I remove this list?

Sorry but I just spent 45 minutes searching for the solution to this but can't find the answer anywhere.

So what I had to do was to go through the purchase sequence on a website that supports PayPal checkout, short of actually making a purchase.

The part where I had to take action was the pop-up dialogue from paypal.com with the "Ship to" and "Pay with" and "Pay later" headings and "Continue" button.

I had to click on "Change" right underneath the old address in the "Ship to" heading, select the correct shipping address from the drop-down (note: evidently the drop-down has every shipping address I have ever used listed), and -- here is the important part -- checkmark the box "Make this my preferred shipping address" and click on the Continue button.

After doing this, I was shown the order review page on the ecommerce website I was doing this on -- I hit cancel. Then, I repeated this process this confirm that PayPal remembered the change in 'preferred address', and it did.

I literally just made a purchase 30 minutes ago using PayPal and I had to update the old address I no longer live at despite the fact that I cannot find any such address anywhere in my PayPal account. Then, when I submitted the purchase on the order review page, despite having corrected the address during the billing entry sequence, PayPal ignored the changes I made and submitted the purchase using my old address. Fortunately, the product I'm receiving is a PDF and not a physical item -- but had it been a physical item I think I would not have been able to use PayPal due to this issue.

Furthermore, I have spent the last 30 minutes searching through every Account/Profile/Shipping/Billing page of my account trying to hunt down the old address. I am not able to find any such thing!!

Can't say this is a "solution" considering it doesn't delete the old addresses.

Paypal, why does your system suck so badly that this is SUCH A DIFFICULT THING TO ACCOMPLISH?!!!

When I called customer support, she told me that they are called "hidden addresses". The only way to have those removed it to tell the representative on the phone or online chat to remove all of them. There  is no way for you to remove them yourself, which is crazy.
