PayPal app breaks when asked for authentication code

Whenever I try to login to the app, I’m asked for the 2FA code as expected. When I switch to the Authenticator app to get the code and switch back to PayPal, the PayPal app no longer shows the boxes to enter the code and just shows a blank screen with a spinning loading circle that goes on indefinitely. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app but it’s doing the same thing on a fresh install and login

I myself, don't always have a phone available for texts, so I can't sign in. I've talked to someone on the phone, and they basically kept telling me to go to settings and change the mobile phone number. I don't have another mobile phone. So this is it? No mobile phone number to gets texts, tough luck. And I have an email address in there and a home phone, but it always wants to text me.

I, myself, have contacted the support team (about the problem signing in without a text (below) and all they keep telling me is I'll receive a text with a number to put it.  I've even stated to him:  ''so if I'm unable to receive a text, I can't get into Paypal? ''   And he says the same thing. So customer support was no help at all.  What's the sense of having an email address and a home phone in my account if they're never going to ask for it?
