Why do I have to keep verifying my identity to paypal again and again?

I have been with paypal 20 years and I made a claim against a company that ripped me off and now pp are making me jump through hoops to verify my id.

I sent a government issued free bus pass with picture I sent council tax and PIP[ forms again both government issues and still I cant shop with paypal

Why?

They just keep asking me again for photo id and proof of address I have already done this just a few years ago I even sent them scans of my birth certificate????

Acceptable Proof of Identity documents are:

  • Passport or passport card
  • Driving licence (front and back)
  • Other form of State or Government Issue ID
  • National ID card/Residency Permit (front and back).

Acceptable Proof of Address documents are:

  • Utility bill (gas, electricity, water, phone/broadband, mobile, etc.)
  • Payslip
  • Bank or credit card statement (transaction dates can be used as equivalent of issue date)
  • Driving licence with physical address listed (must be issued within last 36 months to be accepted)
  • National ID card (can be accepted if not used as proof of identity and it is issued the last 36 months)
  • Tax Authority Letter
  • Proof of residency.

Maybe the bus pass is not acceptable form of ID? Try Passport and a bank statement or card statement.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Hi @jimmysmith1,

I'm sorry that there has been any confusion. The government issued photo ID requirement pertains to photo identification that can be accepted as identification nationally. A bus pass would not meet this requirement. PayPal has to meet regulatory requirements and can only accept certain kinds of documents for identification. While you are not prevented from submitting a document of a different type, upon review, it would not be accepted to fulfill what is needed to lift the limitation. I regret the inconvenience.

So why isn't a goverment issued "photo ID Natiomal entitlement card" acceptable give me one good reason? If I have to provide evidence to the government to obtain one of these NEC cards and the government accepts my documents and issues it then why isn't it acceptable to paypal. Do paypal think they are a higher authority than the uk government????

You try to belittle it and undermine me by basically saying "its only a bus pass huh" but it's not, its a government issued NEC card for a disabled person so how is it any different when you ask people to verify their home address using "a government issued document" ?

PERFECTLY FITS THE DESCRIPTOR "Other form of State or Government Issue ID"

Double standards!!!

What exactly do paypal expect people to do if, like me, they do not have either a passport or a driving license?

The uk government discontinued the issue of ID cards many many years ago!

So what is acceptable?

Also you have NOT answered my question I did not ask why I have to verify myself I asked why I am being asked AGAIN when I have already done this?

So can you answer my question or not?

Why do I have to keep verifying my identity to paypal again and again?
