security key fob problem

I have been using my little Paypal-issued security fob for years without any problem. Every time I sign-in or purchase something, the system asks for the 6-digit number, I push the button and enter the number that appears. Great. 🙂
Today the security fob started SOMETIMES displaying something before the 6-digit number appears. See the picture. The two numbers on the right vary; 05 or 03. The 6-digit code still works to get me in. Is it the battery? Is the thing getting ready to expire? Any ideas?

In terms of the security key fob, it may be the battery that needs changing. Do try this and see if it starts working again without giving you any errors.

From reading other information, the battery is not user replaceable and to contact PayPal for a replacement fob. Mine has stopped working completely. Who do we contact to order a replacement if the security key fob are still be supported?

I understand you'd like to replace the battery on your Security Key fob. Regrettably, the Security Key fob has been depreciated, so we are unable to order replacement batteries or fobs. I recommend referring to our Help Center to review what other 2-Factor Authentication options are currently available to replace it.
