Depop buyer filed a claim base on receiving a ‘fake’ item.

Hi. I sold a Stussy hoodie last week on Depop. It arrived to the buyer and he immediately sent me a message saying that it was a blatant fake and then he wanted a refund. I’m not an experienced Depop user so any help would be appreciated regarding policy etc. In absolute honesty, if he is right in saying it’s a fake, i had no idea. I bought the hoodie off somebody else on Depop over a year ago, it was too small and so i sort of just disregarded it to the back of wardrobe and that was that. I recently decided to sell it just because it was wasting space. I said i had no idea that it was a fake (if he is telling the truth), and that i didn’t feel i needed to refund it. He has now escalated it to Paypal and attached several images showing ‘evidence’ of it being a fake. I don’t know what to do, the item sold for £20 and that is what he has asked me to refund. If we escalate it to a dispute, will i lose? I have heard paypal frequently sides with the buyer, and if i do lose, what happens monetarily wise? I’ve heard of a dispute fee but I’m not too sure what that is even after reading up on it? Will i be forced to pay the refund and a fee?

Any help is appreciated!

A similar thing just happened to me. Buyer said item was dirty (when I put a note in saying my dishwasher broke, and there was only very slight mud on the cuffs) and item doesn’t fit and I labelled it wrong (when the item is a 10 and I am a 10 and it is far too small for me). What happened to your case? I replied stating that I said in my Depop bio from the outset that I cannot issue refunds but I’m worried that PayPal will back the buyer.
