Old number connected to my PayPal account - CAN'T LOG IN!!!!

For almost a month now I have been attempting to log in to my PayPal account but have been unable to since it asks me each time to verify my identity by providing a one-time code send to me via SMS. Only the code is being sent to a number that I am not even familiar with and do not have access to. I've even tried to contact the person who the number belongs to in an act of desperation but have been unsuccessful with this approach along with every other idea I can think of.

Contacting customer service via the chat option. results in me waiting 30 minutes per each individual response from an agent and ultimately results in the conversation going in circles until they just stop responding all together. I literally keep my computer and the chat log open all day hoping that I will eventually get a response.
Contacting customer service via calling over the phone, results in me being told that the call volume is too high and to try calling back later. This happens every single time I call, no matter the week, day, or hour.

I literally have no idea what to do at this point and am hoping that someone out there can help me one way or another, because I am clueless on what to do next.

I have similar problem trying to do password reset but only option offered is via phonecall to a landline at a property I sold nearly 18 month ago.

cant go to live 121 chat support either as need to log in to do that. In permanent loop only verification option is a phone call for a place not 18 lived at for 18 months.

 

What a joke thats stupidity not security basically means somebody with my old phone number has more chance to get into my account than me. To have no live support for those who can log in (as can only get it when logged in) and not help those cant is so stupid just dont know what to do now. Was only small purchase of $20 but is via paypal only so guess gonna have to nessage. Then explain that paypal have only one account recovery option and I have only that option. Highly embarassing just looks like Im given them **bleep**

Try:

1. Downloading the app to see if it will let you in to change / update it in the settings.

2. Use the forgotten password option several times.

3. Trying another browser that may let you in without phone verification (then change it when you have logged in).

4. Trying again another day when sometimes you can get in without doing the verification and then change the number.

5. Changing the password a few times sometimes works as it can bypass the phone verification.

If that does not work then you would need to contact customer services so that they can i.d. you another way and then add your new phone number to your account.

Contact options for Paypal are accessed by clicking help/contact bottom left of Paypal pages...

1. Paypal phones are slowly re-opening and increasing in numbers (you can use the guest option if you can't log in).
2. Live chat is also randomly available.
3. You can send them a message, during business hours you may also be able to message whilst logged out.

4. Have you considered contacting Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter?
