Email from Paypal saying my information has been verified for no reason

I just got an email from Paypal that says “ Your information has been verified We were able to verify the information you provided, and your account setup is now complete. Thanks for taking the time to verify your information and helping to keep your account secure.“ That’s all it says and nothing else but I don’t understand why I got it. I haven’t done anything to verify my account since I first crated it over a year ago. I haven’t received any emails lately asking me to verify anything so I don’t understand why I got this. Does anyone know?

I also got the email without having verified anything recently. I sent in a query and this was the response:

I understand that you are concerned about the email which you have received from our end regarding verification of your account.

I have checked your account and I can see that the email you have received under subject line "Your information has been verified" was sent by PayPal. All the verified customer in Australia are receiving this message to ensure that there is no issue in their account, and everything is on place.

Please do not worry. Your PayPal account is safe and secured and we are committed towards the account security.

I've bolded a sentence that I found interesting.

I've received a similar unexpected message, from Paypal Australia. I have a 14 year old verified and regularly used account...

The email was signed:

PayPal PPC002003:1.5:ba4245cb26451

I do not know what that means.

I just had exactly the same email, but have been using my Paypal account for years and have not done anything recently to verify my account. The email looked legit, used my full name, the address it came from looks legit - not sure what it means?

Hi @CGFE14, @Snow_Leopard, and @Kerin_H,

I'm sorry for the confusion created by the receipt of an email from PayPal. If the email is not asking you to click any links or reply with any information and otherwise passes the test for legitimacy, it's possible that there was a behind the scenes review that happened that caused the email to be sent. I regret that this caused alarm!

I hope this helps!

Olivia

Hi Paula,

I'm more unsure whether these emails are a good idea when unprompted. Perhaps you could reach into your organisation and help kick off a conversation between devops and communications areas. Running the process to validate probably seemed like a good idea at the time to a select few, but obviously the way it has been done registers concern that triggers users' modern cyber security awareness.
