Is GST number necessary for Freelancer in India?

I created a business(freelancer) PayPal account yesterday and uploaded all details like bank account, ID proof, mobile and email verification etc.. but there is a notification which is asking me to upload GST number. Is it necessary to upload it? Can I get limitations if I don't upload it? I signed up for Freelancer account and I don't have GST number.
