Service Keyword for charity - impossible to edit

Hello,

I am wading through the horrible minefield that is setting up a PayPal account for a charity. I went through the awful process of setting up a business account (because apparently that's what you're supposed to do) and now am trying, as per PayPal's vague instructions, to convert it to a charity account. But I've hit a brick wall - when setting it up, the bizarre "service keyword" thing only had completely inappropriate categories available. So I chose something almost vaguely appropriate ( there was nothing available for "charity" or "not-for-profit", so I chose "Civic, Social, and Fraternal Associations") and now PayPal is telling me (when I try to go through the charity process) that "Your business classification is not eligible. To confirm your charity, your service keyword must be Charitable and Social Service Organization." So I click on Edit Company Profile, and the stupid Service Keyword thing is not editable. About 10 minutes ago, I could edit it, but again, just had the fixed choices, and nothing "Charitable" at all.

Now, if I try to edit my Company Profile, if I simply add my email address to the Customer Service Email address, and click Save, I get the error "We're sorry, we are not able to process your request. Please check your entries and try again."

If anyone can suggest anything useful (other than use a different payment provider) then I would be most grateful to hear from you. So far, using PayPal feels like I'm dealing with some kid-in-his-mum's-basement kind of operation, where nothing really works as it should.

Hello Paul,

I had to set up a business account as well and then convert it to a non-profit. I am in the exact same position as having to pick something remotely close by picking the “Fraternity” thing prior to being able to change it to “Charitable and social organization”. Now it will not save my edit to “charitable and social organization”. So frustrating and they have over $500 of mine that have been given to my charity that I can not access until I verify my charity which has been in existence sine 2014 in good standing with the IRS. I chatted with someone  on PayPal that basically told me to clear cookies (of course this did not work) and then said I would have to call in… still waiting for an operator…I will let you know once I speak with someone...

Hi both,

I am having the same problem. Did either of you solve this / speak to an operator?
