I was charged $29.95 by an online data search company, Intelius. I did not authorize this charge through my PayPal account. How did this happen? Intelius turns out to be operating fraudulently based on 100+++ complaints to BBB.

Hi @Nothappy72,

I'm sorry to hear about the unauthorized activity. Please follow the steps in this article to report it to PayPal. When prompted to choose a new password, please make sure that the password is strong and unique to your PayPal account. If you previously used the same password on PayPal that you used on any other sites, you will want to change your password on those sites to something entirely different. A lot of the time, unauthorized access occurs when the same password and email combination is used on other sites that may or may not be secure.

I hope this helps!

Olivia

I never accepted any subscription or enrollment for future charges going forward with Intelius. I did use them for a one time charge but now as other users mention I was charged $29.95 in addition a week later. Paypal is liable with what businesses they partner with and this should have been a fixed issue after one complaint. I would be curious to view the contract they have with Intelius as a registered payment option. Clearly someone missed the spot with compliance in reading the contract that if you are a non registered member with intelius you can continue to log into paypal and they gain your banking information for future charges to Intelius.

I never registered an account with Intelius because I was able to submit my payment without having to create a user profile for Intelius and was presented with my Paypal profile as a payment option. I verified I didn't register an account with Intelius by using my email I use to register any account to try and log in on the Intelius website. In addition, I clicked the forgot password on Intelius user log in page and never received a forgot password log in email from Intelius.
