Venmo Permanently Deactivated Account without explanation

Hi, there! The Venmo website redirected me here.

I recently went to pay my roommate for some bills and got a notification that my account was frozen due to "recent activity that triggered some security alerts."

I emailed, as instructed, asking why my account was frozen and the first reply said that "it appears your case requires additional attention from another team."

A few days later, I got another email explaining that my account is now permanently deactivated because they found that my actions and activity violated their User Agreement. They go on to explain that they cannot divulge their decision-making criteria and there is no further explanation of which portion of the User Agreement I somehow violated.

My suspicion is that my account was deactivated because the descriptions I put on my descriptions are often puns, purposeful misspellings for humorous effect, and a few instances of gibberish. Though, I have no idea if this is actually the reason for the deactivation.

If I have actually violated the agreement, then I accept that my account is deactivated and I'm happy to learn my lesson. However, I had about $150 in my account at the time that I no longer see available to me and I'd like to at least have that money back.

Does anyone know how I would go about confirming the reason for my deactivation and how I can get my money out of the account?

Where you able to get your account unfroze and able to get your money. I am having the same issue and have a feeling that it had to do with the memo that was posted with payment..

I’m having the same issue. Was your account ever reactivated? I’m believe there may have been a mistake made in this decision process as I can’t find any way I’ve violated the user agreement.

this happened to me about two years ago and luckily i didn’t have any money in my account at the time. i’ve called venmo support on multiple occasions and they won’t do anything. it’s so frustrating and inconvenient as i have to make my friends download other apps and make accounts to be able to send me money as most of them only use venmo.

How was you able to get the money that was on your account? I had $500 on mine when they froze it.

@CaseyTheGiraffeCurious if you were able to find out more about why your account was permanently deactivated. I had the same sequence of emails seemingly out of the blue... first one noting "security alerts", followed by a response that another team needs to look into it, and then another response that my account was permanently restricted. I haven't been able to get any useful information on why. I used Venmo infrequently, especially over the past year during COVID, and see nothing that would be in violation of the user agreement. I had no money in the account, but Venmo was really convenient for splitting costs with friends, so it's disappointing that this happened.
