Is selling electronic cigarettes still banned by paypal? Ebay hasn't banned them so I don't understand why Paypal would. I setup a store website using the paypal payment gateway selling them before I noticed some people saying they were band. Please advise! Thanks

Best to check for yourself direct, contact the Compliance Dept at:    compliance @ paypal.com

Not sure how the e-cigs are classified, if they fall under tobacco products or violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation, then they would be prohibited.

As there are various thoughts here, suggest asking direct.

That is a tricky topic right now. I have an e cig store and sold hundreds of non nicotine e liquids on ebay after I received a notice saying the  nicotine liquids could not be offered. A few weeks later my paypal acct was blocked. I spoke to a compliance rep and was told that any e cig liquids could not be purchased through paypal. Some of the larger e cig companies have been using paypal for transactions (even the nicotine ones) for years so I dont really understand the policy. Non nicotine liquids can still be sold on ebay but not with paypal. you have to use a different merchant acct that approves them.

I know the FDA and political organizations are getting a lot of pressure from the tobacco industry to slow or halt e cig sales. E cigs are fairly new and do have several studies but in what I have read need further investigation. Cigarette sales in 2011 were almost 300 billion but have been slowly declining over the years. With the e cigarettes being easier to manufacture and produce (no large farm, permits, manufacturing plants, 1000 of acres to grow etc) many small businesses are able to make e liquids and form online stores using a spare room in their house or small local shop. A disadvantage and a good point that is made is the consistency of the nicotine from people mixing at home and not testing final batches. There could be safety issues as nicotine is poisonous. When a dose of 60mg can kill a person and if someone dilutes pure nicotine (999mg in 20 drops) incorrectly people could get injured. Another example is  placing nicotine in 100% glycerine without distilled water the pure nicotine will float on the top and not mix well. Many may not be testing final dilutions..........

A 10% reduction in sales would mean 30 billion $$ but most likely more as people are shifting to vaporizers. Also many states now require a tobacco sales permit to sell e liquids. It all comes down to monetary battles of who gets a piece of the pie and its harder to regulate ecigs.

After talking to my senator about this issue, he stated that some manufactures are using unsafe fillers like ED medications in the mixture. Their is no push to ban them. The concern about online sales are that children may buy them and that some eliquid has way too much nicotine.

Yes you are correct. Paypal is not accepting new merchants that sell Ecigs or vaporizers online. The reason is obscure but I think it is because these items are considered high risk products. This means you are a high risk merchant. You will not have a problem establishing an account. Simply go to the link below or go to www.merchantdiscountrate.com

Go to http://www.merchantdiscountrate.com/electronic-cigarette-merchant-account.html . and someone will help you.
