Cannot link bank account

Hello everyone, I'm unable to link my Scotiabank account to my Canadian Paypal (both are in my name).

First I tried to link my bank account using the instant method. I entered my card number and password and it took me to the "Choose your accounts" screen, but there is no where to click to choose an account. The only thing I can click is "Accept and link" at the bottom, and when I click that I get an error message: "Choose at least 1 account."

So I tried the 2-3 day method under "Link your bank another way" where you enter all the info from your cheque. After I entered all the info and clicked "Agree and link", I got another error message: "We're sorry. We're not able to process your request right now. Please try again later."

I don't care which method I use, I just need to link my account somehow. Thank you.

Here are some common issues you might encounter when linking a bank account:

  • The bank account must be a Canadian bank.
  • The bank account can’t be linked to more than one account at a time.
  • The bank account can't be linked if it has already been linked to 3 previous PayPal accounts.
  • The name on the bank account must match the name on the PayPal account.

We can confirm accounts from most banks and credit unions. Unfortunately, there are some banks that are not compatible with PayPal. Most online only, prepaid banks cannot be added to PayPal accounts.

In response to your suggestions:

 

  • The bank account must be a Canadian bank. It is.
  • The bank account can’t be linked to more than one account at a time. It isn't.
  • The bank account can't be linked if it has already been linked to 3 previous PayPal accounts. It hasn't been.
  • The name on the bank account must match the name on the PayPal account. It is.

As I mentioned in the original inquiry, I am using Scotiabank.

I can't resolve this issue by phone because there are no humans available and the robot takes me through the steps that lead to the error messages. I don't know how else to get help besides this message board.

Apology for the convenience.

 

By adding a bank account to your PayPal account, you can make payments using this bank account or transfer your PayPal balance to your bank. Here's how to link a bank account to your PayPal account:

  1. Click Wallet at the top of the page.
  2. Click Link a bank.
  3. Select your bank.
  4. Select Instantly or In 3-5 days according to how you want to link your bank.
  5. Follow the instructions on page.

If your bank is not listed on the screen:

  1. Select Don't see your bank? at the bottom.
  2. Select Checking or Savings.
  3. Enter the bank's transit number, institution code and account number.
  4. Verify that your information is correct, and click Agree and Link.

To link your bank account instantly, please enter your user ID and password for your online banking. We'll match this information with your bank to confirm your account ownership. Once this information is entered correctly, your bank account will be confirmed instantly.

If you enter your bank account number manually, you'll be prompted to confirm this bank account. Within 3 business days, review your bank statement to find 2 small deposits (less than $1.00 CAD) that we sent to your bank account. With this information, you can complete the confirmation process online.

Please note:

  • Some banks combine the 2 small deposit amounts into 1 lump sum. If you only receive 1 small deposit, contact us to confirm your bank or try to link your bank instantly.
  • You can add up to 8 bank accounts to your PayPal account. Each bank account can only be linked to one PayPal account at a time.
  • The random deposits are temporary and will eventually be debited from your bank account. You’ll need to confirm your bank account before you can move money from your bank account to your PayPal account.
