Possible Wrong Account Number Entered -- HELP!

Hello everyone,

I'm waiting for two payments from PayPal since last week. My problem is that it's not in my bank account yet. Normally, I receive it within 2 days. Here's what happened.

I've linked a bank account before, deleted it, and then link it again so I'm not sure if I entered the wrong account number or if it's still taking time to be verified again.

The transactions say Completed (one dated Jan. 2 and the other one is dated Dec. 28) but until now, it's not on my bank account. I contacted PayPal via FB and Twitter and assured me that the money will bounce back if the account number entered is not under my name.

However, I asked again last night and two customer support said that in case the wrong account number exist, the payment will still push through and I will be the one who will ask the receiver for the refund.

Which is which? Please help.

Also, if the 14-days is done and they can trace the money, will PayPal provide the wrong account number? If not, how can I contact the receiver? Please enlighten me. Thank you!

It depends if the wrong account number happens to belong to someone's account or not. But if the name doesn't match the account number, the money shouldn't just go into the bank account. That should be a no-brainer mistake to avoid by the bank's system. Unless there is someone else by your same name associated to the account number. What are the odds of that happening is the question.

It may be normal for it to take 2 days but generally transfers for your country take between 5-7 days. If after 14 days, nothing, then just call customer service back to trace it. It takes the bank 10 days to notify PayPal if there is any problem and PayPal notifies you. I don't know if they will tell you or not for privacy reasons. You will have to talk to your bank if they put it in someone else's account. Most likely the recipient would be banking at the same bank as you.

Did you ever confirm your bank account before using it? PayPal should have people enter the bank account number and bank code twice when adding a bank account to avoid errors like the bank does for online account access. I know that PayPal doesn't require you to confirm bank account to withdraw to bank.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
