I usually send my wife money every week via Western Union. I just recently been using instant deposit when people send me money, it's great and is in my account in minutes for a 1% fee. So I figured to start using paypal to send the money to her as its way cheaper.
So first I sent $5 to make sure it would work. She got the money and there was no instant option like mine, but id did say there was a next day option, so we did that.
Then next day the $5 showed up in her bank account. So it wasnt instant but still better than Western Union.
Next day I sent $500 USD ($688 Canadian dollars) but now when she got the money it said it would not show up in her account for 3 days. So we refunded the money back to me.
Here is the actual question, The money never left my bank account in the first place so it still in there. If I send western union now will paypal still try to take the money out of my account? If so what happens if there is not enough in my bank account? It will look like I tried to do something shady. Im really hoping I can get a reply before I send the WU and get the whole thing sorted. I dont mind paying the fees or currency exchange difference.
PS: My wife is not very computer savvy and didnt tell me that a refund policy popped up on the screen until after the process.
Please Advise
Alex

If you funded the payment to them using bank transfer PayPal credit the recipient on your behalf. Then if you receive a refund in the meantime they are unable to issue this until the original bank transfer completes.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

I waited till 9AM to call Paypal customer support, I explained the situation and the woman said..and I quote "I have cancelled the transaction since no funds were actually transferred, it will be like it never happened" So I was relived and used Western Union to send the money. Then today I get a text message from my bank saying I am in a negative balance of $688 Canadian dollars! So am stuck with no money until I get paid on Thursday and my bank thinks I tried to scam them.
And how long do I have to wait for my money to go back in? The whole thing was over with 3 days before the money was taken out of my account. I called again today and said its impossible to put the money back in my account instantly which makes no sense as I use the "Instant Deposit" option all the time.
So 3-5 days to take it out, and another 3-5 days to put it back in???
Sorry I know you do this voluntarily and it's not your fault personally. It just put me in a bad position.
Thanks
Alex

I did tell you in bold letters that the funds would leave your account anyway and then be reimbursed later.
But you chose to not believe me and phoned customer services and got the wrong advice (remember its just a call centre often staffed by folks that have no idea and just read a script off a screen).
I can't say how long it will take in your country but it tends to be a few days up to a week.
