I recently opened a paypal account because I moved to spain, and I was told by paypal itself that to link my account to a spanish bank I'd need to create a new account, so I did. I use paypal to get my money from Patreon, since I'm an artist, and to get the money out of patreon in Spain you need either a paypal account or a payoneer account.

After a while I was asked to show some ID verification (standard practices) so I did. after a few days, I got a message telling me my account was terminated and my own money (1 whole month's salary) was unaviable for 6 months. I thought it was a mistake so I emailed them, only to receive generic replies with absolutely no help at all. "We've decided not to continue supplying our services to you". was all I got.

I called paypal support to ask them what could be the problem, because all I was doing was to keep doing what i used to do with my other account. They told me that the reason could be that in the ID documents I had sent them my name was translated to french (I have chilean and french nationality, and I'm using my french documents in Spain, so instead of "Tomás" I'm "Thomas")  Even after they had previously told me it was NOT supposed to be a problem, because it was a simple translation issue.

I was asked to send my chilean ID documents, to prove I'm the same person, and I did, but today, a week after that, I called paypal support again and they told me that the appeal was rejected and I would indeed have to wait the 180 days for the refund of my own money and my account was still banned. And that they couldn't appeal anymore since this was already over what phone support could do.  The also told me the issue might not have been the name translation, but they didn't really know since they don't get all the information themselves.

I think this is ridiculous and absolutely unprofessional from a company we trust with our funds. I've been using it for more than 10 years probably and I've never had any problems so far. I've sent every document they've asked me to, I did ask if the name translation was going to be an issue and they told me it wasn't, I asked if it was okay to use paypal to get my funds from patreon to a spanish bank, they said yes, and still no help at all, I only get generic replies in e-mails. I haven't even been able to get the reason of them banning my account since they can't because of "company policies".
