entering debit card security code

Hi,  I'm trying to re-register my debit card on https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/money/cards/new/manual.

I've entered my card number and expiry date,  but the form won't allow me to enter my card's security code.

My card's security code is a normal 3 or 4 digits,  but the security code field on the form I'm trying to complete is showing 8 pre-entered dots and it doesn't allow any editting.   This security code field is being displayed with a red border, and if I try clicking in it to enter my correct code,  it immediately comes up with a message saying I should check my security code.   Those wrong 8 pre-entered dots stubbornly remain in the field so I can't complete the form.

Can't understand what's going or what could be causing this.
