I have been a PayPal user for years, and only beginning last month I began to receive unsolicited "account statement" e-mails. The message body reads as follows:
Your July Account Statement from PayPal is Ready
Hello <Name Redacted>,
Your account statement lets you view and quickly keep track of your account activity for the previous month.
You can access your statement when logged in to your account simply by clicking Statements under My Account.
Go to www.paypal.com and log in to see your latest statement.
These messages have no "unsubscribe" link, my Profile has no option to opt out, and PayPal Help has been no Help whatsoever. What gives?

Welcome to the boards!
Over the past year, PayPal has implemented an Account Statements process. PayPal is required to notify you whenever a new statement is available. As such, statement notifications cannot be opted out of. However,we don't send the statements via email - they are only available through your account.
Thanks!
Adrian

"statement notifications cannot be opted out of"???? So the only way to stop receiving these unsolicited e-mails is to close my PayPal account? What sort of message does that send to your customers?
Seriously, I use PayPal like 5 times a year for eBay purchases - why on earth do I need a monthly statement notification? This is very dumb. I've never heard of not being able to unsubscribe from e-mails. You really need to reconsider this ridiculous policy.

I agree, I have never requested to get these statment reminder e-mails, I should be able to opt out, I have been a faithfull paypal user for years, dont fix something that is not broken, pop e-mail is so easy to access, I do not want any of my info including my e-mail adrress sent around on an unsecure pop e-mail system, I prefure to keep it the way it has been for years,
offer your customers a way to opt-out of these statement e-mails

PayPal Adrian (Aug 22) states that "we [i.e.. PayPal] don't send the statements via email--they are available through your account." Technically, true, but PayPal does send me an email every month saying it is "available." And, that, my friend, is what I don't want to get! Let me restate that: I don't want to get a monthly email from Pay Pal saying my monthly statement is "available." I don't want to block messages from PayPal, but maybe that's the only way to not get them?

Addendum to just posted--
If the monthly statements can't be opted out, then why does PayPal list the following instructions for changing one's preference? [These instructions, by the way, don't work since there is no "Update" in the Monthly account Statements section so I'm curious as to why PayPal supplies them as the answer to the query, "How can I change my Monthly account statement preferences?
From PayPal web site in response to query, "How can I change my monthly account statement preferences?"
"Log in to your PayPal account.
Click Profile near the top of the page.
Click My money under My Profile.
Click Update in the Monthly account Statements section.
Select the Yes or No button to set your preference.
Click Save."
Has anyone been able to make these instructions work?
