I am looking to rent something advertised on eBay. The owner of the item want me to pay a £100 refundable deposit. This seems fair enough as the item is valuable. However, I want a proper paper trail and want to ensure I get my deposit back. They want me to pay the deposit in cash, but I would prefer to use PayPal on the assumption it gives me more protection/rights.
I would be interested to know if paying by PayPal does protect me, particularly if I return the renter's item, am due my deposit, but the renter becomes difficult and does not want to repay me.
Thanks in advance
