Husband and wife have 2 Paypal accounts but only one credit card

Following seems to be a ridiculous but common scenario from what I can tell. 

My wife and I have a paypal account each but we have just one joint credit card.  But only one of us seem to be able to link a paypal account to that card. 

Stupid.

Ok, well can we share 1 paypal account with each others names added? Nope cant do that either unless business account. WE DON'T WANT THAT!

So for transactions, do we have to use one paypal account in only 1 persons name which effectively means the other person has to log in using the primary paypal account holder details?  That's ridiculous.   We each use paypal to pay for various individual services but 1 person's transactions would have to be in the other persons name. 

Is this 2020?  Clearly not for PAYPAL

Use only one of PayPal accounts, add and confirm email address (you can add up to 8 email addresses per PayPal account) that you or your spouse can use to log into this account (password will be the same) and add shipping address to PayPal account that has other spouse's name added and that shipping address can be selected during checkout but the billing address can be the same as the card.

I have received payments where the PayPal account holder is one name but the shipping address has another name that matches the shipping address given on the PayPal payment and from shop site so it can work. But best to always take a moment to review your payment carefully before finalizing to make sure all the info is correct.

Can't your card have a secondary card holder with its own card number instead of a 'joint' (2 names on one card) card?

Yes I can add the an additional email addy but there is no option to add a name to that email.  I can also add an additional address. There is no option anywhere to add an additional name to either the email or address.  

Our credit cards have different names but the same card number (as it's a joint account).  Paypal recognises the same card number so won't allow linking with the 2 paypal accounts. 

STOP PRESS:   After much effort, I was able to contact Paypal, and they magically did something which allowed me to the link the card. Hmmmmm,

Do you have a bank account? Only if so one of you could use the debit card and the other the credit card?

However its easy to apply and get a second credit card which may make life easier.

OR get the credit card in both names where each of you has a separate card linked to the same card account.
