Paypal fees for an Ebay transaction.

I seem to have been charged an excessive amount for the sale of a wristwatch on Ebay. I sold the watch for £1745 plus £14.95 postage. A total of £1759.95. I've been charged a Paypal fee of £86.54. That's approximately 4.9%. Why is it so much - I thought the fee was around 3%?

To expand. It looks like the item has been purchased by a chap in the USA. I'm assuming this may be the reason for the additional fee?

Paypal fee is 2.9% + 30p now in the UK.

But yes its higher for international sales ie cross border charges.
