I was using 2FA with my old phone (via Google Authenticator).
Got a new phone, the same number obv., pulled Google Auth app... but I can't figure out how to switch to the new one or add the new phone.
Tried setting it up as backup but when, as the lat step, enter code from the new instance, I'm told that one can have only one auth app.
What am I missing? 😄

Try disable two factor authentication and then re-enable it again.
I was not able to get new codes for the new google Authenticator app vi the settings. There seems to be no such option.
However if I disabled the two factor authentication and then enable it again I got new codes and it worked again.

I too am trying to migrate my Paypal authentication via Google Authenticator to my new phone. I have not been able to see how to do this online. The reply from Cristina says to call Paypal. But in the Contact Us section, there isn't any phone number listed, nor even an email address. Can anyone help me with moving my authenticator to a new phone?
Thank you!
JB

Here's what worked for me:
- Login to Paypal.com with the account in question. You will need your old phone with the old Authenticator.
- Go to Settings, Security, 2 Step Verification, Update
- If you don't have a backup, make one now (e.g. your mobile phone)
- For your backup, Set as Primary. The Authenticator will now become the backup instead.
- Now Remove the Authenticator app.
- Add a device, Authenticator.
- Scan the QR code using the new Phone's Authenticator and add the 6 digit sync code.
- Set the Authenticator as Primary.
