Applebees charge appears twice, is this correct posting policy?

So I go to Applebees, you know, the 2 meals and appetizer for $20...I'm a cheap date since my ony spending money is from ebay sales..

I pay for the meal with my snazzy PayPal® mastercard after adding a tip. I come home and it shiows up online with a hold which is customary since the original cost was posted and we are waiting for my 20% tip to ship up with the final total.

A day or two later the Temporary hold is off with the correct total displayed in the column..you know, -28.25

Then another day, or later withthe same posting date another Applebees charge for the -28.25 shows up again.

So, is this customary..for the original charge to show up, then show up again when it is finally posted?

Back in the day..Paypal had a running total column which showed your balance next to the amout rec'd or paid. Since I can't see that column anymore, I'm ot sure if it was deducted from my account twice or just the once.

I don't want to open a dispute becuase I am not disputing the charge, just need the clarification...and of course there are no help options to ask that question. I also don't want to open a dispute because they may cancel the card, make me re-apply and I've done that before...don't want tot do it again...

any ideas out there??

I work for a corporate restaurant, often times we may make a mistake when runing your credit or debit card through. If we run your credit card for the wrong amount, we must void it and re-run it. The tricky part is using the same authorization number to run it again. If we don't use the same authorization number, your account will momentarily be charged twice and customers will most likely be calling the restaurant to complain. I am almost positive this was not a paypal error. It is most likely an error due to them authorizing 2 credits to your account, and it just taking time (up to 7 days) to void the mistaken credit card amount.
