I havn't used Paypal for a couple of years but it used to be very easy to set up Paypal buttons. Add a product, generate the code, copy and paste to your website - done.
I now have a new website and want to do the same but I just cannot find out how to do it. Paypal website just sends me round in circles and I can't even get to the page where I can add a product. The whole process is a maze which I cannot find my way out of. Can anybody please explain to me in simple terms how I can get to the page that I need for adding a product so that I can generate the code for a Paypal button to add to my website?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Good day @gcopping,
Thank you for posting to the PayPal community.
Yes, PayPal Website Payments Standard (WPS) is a legacy integration.
We recommend merchants to integrate our latest PayPal Checkout (Smart button) product soon.
Please follow the steps provided in the below detailed guide links :
https://developer.paypal.com/docs/checkout/
https://developer.paypal.com/demo/checkout/#/pattern/server
https://developer.paypal.com/integration-builder/
Merchants can also follow the below steps via your PayPal account.
Login PayPal.com >> Hover on your name at the top right corner >> go to "Account settings" >> Website payments >> PayPal buttons >> select button type.
(Or)
Login PayPal.com >> go to direct link "https://www.paypal.com/buttons/" >> follow the above steps
If your still facing any issues, please create a MTS ticket via - https://www.paypal-support.com/s/?language=en_US with the detail information and error details.
Sincerely,
Chiranjeevi

Thanks for your reply.
Yes I can now see how to build a payment page with the integration builder link that you sent (but note in my previous research I just couldn't find that page through your website).
However, in previous versions, a product was added and this enabled the payment page code to be generated to insert on my website. With the integration builder I still can't see where I add a product to enable the payment page code for that product to be generated. So how does the payment page know what product has been ordered?
Still very confusing compared to how simply it worked in the past.
Any further help greatly appreciated.

I am having the same issue. I tried to follow the directions on the PayPal site, but it just kept taking me in circles. I will try what you suggested, but could you please make this easier for those of us who manage our own websites. It used to be so easy to add the PayPal button.

Hello!
I tried the steps listed and I was able to get the code to create a PayPal Button. It seemed to work, but when I tested it on my website, the purchase I made was put on hold. Now, when I go back to my PayPal Business Account and look at my Saved Buttons to a "page not found" error message.
The instructions on the integration page are very confusing. I don't know what to do or how to get a simple code for a PayPal Button for my website.
There must be an easier way that having to integrate, get API code, etc...
Please provide a step by step tutorial for the creation of a paypal button that can be used on a website.
Thank you.

I completely sympathise with you. The Paypal website for a small developer is a complete disgrace and nearly impossible to navigate to find a solution. What a backward step from the buttons we used to use so successfully.
Also trying to get a response from Paypal on this subject is very difficult. One response on this issue 8 days ago and then nothing after I posted a reply to it.

A bit of a workaround: Mouse over your profile icon>Account Settings>Website Payments (left side)>Paypal Buttons: Update>Sell on Social
This allows you to add basic product information and get a paypal checkout page as a link. It does not, however allow for direct credit card payments.

THANK-YOU!! I had the same issue as the OP, but using the 'Sell on Social' option worked, then when I clicked 'back to dashboard' it somehow opened a page titled 'My Products' that shows all my old buttons again! These are easy to edit and copy paste onto my website. MUCH MUCH better than the confusing method paypal offers for adding a button to website now.
