Paypal payments are never instant if funded from a bank account, that is why when you pay a seller they credit them upfront and paypal take the wait.
This is because they use the cheapest transfer option ie electronic and not wire transfer = echeques.
However sometimes its you that has to take the wait for the echeque to clear................
1. Senders back up funding source of a card needs adding or updating.
2. Sender has had a recent negative balance.
3. Sender has had a recent failed bank transfer.
4. Some high cost riskier payments / transactions.
5. Friends / family payments....funded from a bank account.
6. Adding funds to your paypal account balance.
