Friend "sent me money" but I have not received it?

Roughly a week ago I was supposedly sent money from a friend who owed me. The money hasn't been added to my PayPal account and I haven't had any email or anything which I normally get upon receiving a payment. Absolutely nothing has come through on my end (no pending money or anything of the sort). Although this is my friend and I mostly believe him, I can't help but wonder if there is something he's lying about or misunderstood.  Just to clarify, the money was sent as family and friends and he told me that the money was taken out of his PayPal balance. I'm mainly wanting to ask if anyone else has had the same situation or if this is confirmed to be possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance 😄

Was the money sent to correct email address and is your email address confirmed if it was sent to correct email address.  There should be a transaction ID number your friend can give you to call PayPal with to trace the payment.
