Paid with PayPal but never went through, but still took money from my bank account.

As said in the title paid but there was no transaction. Still took money from my bank account and now that money is gone and product that i was gonna pay for didn´t go through. The transaction did not show up on my PayPal but it did show up on my bank account and said that the purchase was made through PayPal. Really would just like to know what happened to the money and how can i fix this.

Anytime you make or attempt to make an order online, PayPal creates a temporary authorization which is an agreement to pay merchant and the funds are held until the merchant claims the money. If the merchant does not claim the money because payment or order failed to complete for whatever reason, the temporary authorization remains until it expires and drops off from your account activity entirely with funds released in longer than 30 days or no sooner than 3 or so days. Look in your bank or card activity, the transaction will say it is pending.

PayPal cannot cancel pending authorizations. If the payment is marked as posted by your bank then you can report it to your bank but I doubt it would if the order didn't go through for the merchant to claim the funds. Or you can contact merchant to see if they can void the authorization but that may not always be possible if they do not have a transaction or order to void it from.
