PayPal is linked to Google Pay, why does it only use my bank account instead of credit card?

As the title reads, in my Google Pay app/account I have synced my PayPal account. When I use touchless payment methods at stores I am able to complete transactions successfully using my PayPal account. However, no matter what payment method I have selected in PayPal (i.e I've tried my debit card, multiple credit cards) it always defaults to use my bank account. Also, in my PayPal account itself I have specifically set the credit card I want to use as the Preferred as instructed.

Does anyone know if this is purposeful/the way PayPal can only work with Google Pay or is this a bug on PayPal's end and someone else has gotten it to work? My next thought would be to remove ALL other payment methods and leave only the credit card I want to use linked and then trying, but that would require a lot of extra effort that I don't want to go down just yet without first confirming what I've asked above.

Thanks in advance!

You must select your preferred for in-store purchases as well:

Go to Settings (gear icon) > Payments > Your preferred way to pay > In-store purchases > Change

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
