PayPal using PayPal Credit for recurring payments

It seems PayPal automatically uses PayPal Credit for charges like Netflix or Spotify even though my payment preference in payments is set up to use my bank account. Consequently, I log in to find I've racked up a PayPal Credit balance when it was meant to be coming out of my bank account. I'm about ready to shut down my PayPal Credit account if this keeps up. Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it?

Please know that payment method settings for recurring payment are separate from the preferred payment method setting in your wallet.

To update your recurring billing payment methods, go to:

Go to Account Settings (gear icon) > Payments > Manage Automatic Payments
