Paypal Key Transactions

Hi, I've recently made 2 purchases with my PayPal key. Bought an airline ticket & bought something from Amazon. It seems that my PayPal key method must of been declined because the Amazon purchase ended up utilizing my backup method, and the airline ticket was charged to my PayPal cash balance instead!

I called PayPal customer service and they seemed confused as to the issue here. I told them I now have a negative cash balance on my PayPal and I want to know why my PayPal key info wasn't charged. She wasn't sure and advised me to wait until Monday to see how the transactions settle. 

What should I do here? Obviously this negative cash balance on my PayPal account is through no fault of my own, and I am still not sure why my PayPal key is not being charged properly.

Hi,

I'm using a Chase Freedom Credit Card. FYI I have been using my PayPal key linked to this card since the start of October 2020, since the chase card has a bonus 5% for PayPal purchases. It has been working fine with no issues. This is the first time this issue is encountered.

@stevenr911 sorry to bump this but were you able to get this resolved? Having the same issue here -- made payment with PayPal Key linked to a specific credit card but the money was auto-withdrawn from a linked bank account instead.

Hi, I was not able to get a solution. PayPal actually disactivated my PayPal key from further use until I paid the negative PayPal balance. Had to do a transfer from a checking account. Spoke 3 times to PayPal customer service but was not helped. Because of the chase card's current 5% cashback earnings until the end of Dec 2020, I caved and paid the negative balance. Goes to show how "helpful" paypal is. I wish a competitor would rise up and show PayPal how it's done.
