Is there any way you just search a payment using the transaction ID only?

This might be possible.
In the PayPal link below, there will be a link at the top of the page that says "Find a transaction", select it. On the next page you'll see a drop down box, select "Transaction ID" and enter the Transaction ID in the box next to it. Then select Search.

I'm sorry the link is not working. Thank you for the screenshots.
You may be able to set a date range that you think the transaction was processed around, and manually compare the Transaction ID. This can be tried with the history link. https://www.paypal.com/history
If you download pdf statements and have a two year error, try setting your dates in 23 month increments.

This worked for me, I needed to find a transaction ref from 2010 and found it straight away. Thanks
