Send to friend delay

Hello all. I am just wondering why there is delay between my bank clearing the money and my friend receiving the money in his account?
Explanation:
I transferred £20 to a friend last Sunday morning which my bank cleared and it was taken from my account on Wed so obviously my bank HAS cleared it.
Now 2 days later my friend has not received it into his account with a "pending" claiming it is still waiting to be cleared ...now to me this makes no sense.
Why is Paypal sitting on this money and making out that somehow the issue is my end ? My bank has signed off on it and given it to Paypal.

Thanks for info in advance.

Transfers from bank accounts are never instant, that is why when you buy something paypal credit the seller upfront for you and paypal take the wait for the funds to transfer to pay them back again, this is so you get your item without delay.

But if you add funds to your paypal account using ACH and not wire transfer OR you send a friends / family payment then its not credited upfront and you have to take the wait this time.

Takes 5-7 working days to transfer as Paypal use the slowest (cheapest) transfer option BUT funds normally leave your bank account from a few hours up to a few days later.

Thanks for reply

But I did use the "send to a friend / family payment" option

Exactly, thats what i said if you read my post, if its a f/f transaction OR you add funds then its you that takes the wait as there is no seller to credit upfront and no item to be delivered.
