Spotify Premium payments even though it was cancelled in advance of the due date.

Has anybody else had Spotify Premium take out the first payment even though I had told Spotify in advance of the due date that I didn't want to join Premium? I sent the message on Spotify's own Message Centre and took a Screenshot of my message, just in case,  but in spite of this, they still took out the payment 2 weeks later & now Paypal will not repay this amount when I complained to Paypal that it had been taken out against my wishes. What more can you do? Can anybody help me? Do I need to go to court to recover this amount even though it is only £9.99? I wonder how many other people Spotify have stolen from like this. Pretending they didn't receive the cancellation in time.

Hi teepee19,

Thank you for contacting the PayPal Community Forum.

When cancelling a subscription with a merchant, the billing agreement on PayPal will also need to be cancelled. Although you may inform the merchant that you no longer wish to avail of their services, while the billing agreement is still in place the merchant is still authorized to take the funds.

Please make sure the billing agreement has been cancelled.

Here’s how to cancel a subscription or recurring payment:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Click the Settings icon near the top of the page.
  3. Click Payments, then Manage Pre-approved Payments .
  4. Select the merchant whose agreement you want to cancel and click Cancel.
  5. In the 'Cancel Confirmation' pop-up, click Yes.

If you opened a dispute on PayPal and we were unable to recover the funds for you, please reach out to the merchant for further assistance.
