Why does a transaction say pending on my bank statement?

I have bought an item off depop but the payment is pending, it says the transaction is pending on my banking app and it also says pending  on her end. The money has come out of my account as I've rang my bank and they said the money has left it's just that the retailer hasn't took it yet? The seller has told me she can't ship my item until she's received my payment. What should I do?

If its pending in your PAYPAL ACCOUNT then it sounds like an echeque, is there a clearance date?

It doesn't say pending in my paypal account it just shows me what I bought and the sellers information, there's no clearance date either. It only says that it's pending on my banking app.

Well it would be pending on your banking app as transfers via bank accounts are never instant.

However normally paypal CREDIT the seller upfront and paypal take the wait for the funds to transfer from your bank account to pay them back, this is so there is no delay in the despatch of your item.

Funds can leave your bank account from a few hours up to a few days later.

However whether the SELLER gets the funds instantly and not pending may be down to his account and nothing to do with you.

But to check that you would need to confirm that it says either 'completed' 'payment' or 'sent' on the transaction in YOUR paypal account and not pending.

Thank you for your advice, I spoke to the seller to ask if it is still pending on her end, she basically said that paypal thinks that it is a 'high risk transaction' as it was a lot of money, so she has to inform paypal when she's shipped my item and the money should be in her account by tomorrow.
