making me add a debit card?!

I’m trying to order something from an online store and using paypal. i have my bank account linked (my routing/account number) instead of my debit card info becuase my card hasn’t come in the mail yet. i’ve phrchaed things on other websites using paypal many times but sometimes it asks me for a credit card and doesn’t let me do it. why does it want a debit/credit card? i have my bank account linked and it usually works

I'm sorry to hear that you are unable to make the purchase that you're trying to make. There are a couple of reasons why a credit card might be required to make a payment. 

One possibility is that the merchant requires a billing agreement to establish the payment. A billing agreement may require a card to be used in order to be established.

Another possibility is that the security system has determined that the bank cannot be used for this payment, or that a card specifically would be a safer method of payment. If this is the case, the payment may not be able to be processed using the bank, or at least not at that time.
